When and why do I as a designer would need to use Mapping Element in CATIA Sheet metal?

I have read the description of the function but still don’t get it. Why would I need the projection of my sketch as it is done with the Mapping Element in Sheet metal CATIA? Are there experienced designers who work with the sheet metal and can give the example when that one could be used.
Thanks in advance.

I've used the Sheetmetal workbench in the past, but have never used the Mapping features. I would just draw my own sketches in the flat, and Fold them into the bent orientation.

These Mapping tools appear to make the process a little quicker and easier, Plus they provide a method of identifying 4 different curve Types for drafting and fabrication applications. See the online Help files.
