How can I create a new plan parallel to the front plan?

Here are two easy ways to make a new plane that is parallel to the front plane. I am using SW 2012 but I think this has been the same for many versions.

  1. Step 1:

This is a new part where I drew a line on the top plane to use a reference later (this would be any sketch or geometry from your part) and I made the front plane visible.

  2. Step 2:

Under the features tab of the ribbon select reference geometry and then select plane.

  3. Step 3:

To the left of the screen you will see the feature manager for creating the new plane.

  4. Step 4:

select the front plane and choose a distance you want this plane to be from the front plane.

  5. Step 5:

accept by clicking the green check and here you see your new plane parallel to the front plane.

  6. Step 6:

another way to do this would be select select the parallel box under the front plane in Step 4. as you will see the plane is under defined until you choose a second point for the plane to intersect. choosing the end point of the line I drew earlier creates a plane the passes through that point and is parallel to the front plane.
