The video describes the workflow used by Datasmith Solidworks Exporter plugin
https://docs.unrealengine.com/5.0/en-US/using-datasmith-with-solidworks-in-unreal-engine/

  1. Step 1: Installing Datasmith Exporter plugin for SW

To transfer files from Solidworks to Unreal Engine with Datasmith, you will need to:

    1. Install the Datasmith Exporter plugin for Solidworks.
    2. In Solidworks, load the scene you want to export.
    3. From the main toolbar, open the Save menu (floppy disk icon), and select Save As.
    4. In the Save As window, set Save as type to Unreal ( *.udatasmith ).
    5. Give your file a name and click Save.

This will export your Solidworks scene to a .udatasmith file.

To import the .udatasmith file into Unreal Engine:

    1. Open Unreal Engine and create a new project.
    2. In the Content Browser, right-click and select Import.
    3. Navigate to the .udatasmith file and click Import.

Datasmith will import your Solidworks scene into Unreal Engine. You can then view and edit your scene in the Unreal Engine editor.

Here are some additional tips for transferring files from Solidworks to Unreal Engine with Datasmith:

    • Make sure that you are using the correct version of the Datasmith Exporter plugin for Solidworks.
    • If you are exporting a large assembly, you may want to consider exporting it in multiple .udatasmith files. This can help to improve performance and reduce the risk of errors.
    • You can use the Datasmith Import Options window to control how Datasmith imports your Solidworks scene. For example, you can specify whether to import materials, textures, and lights.
    • Once you have imported your Solidworks scene into Unreal Engine, you may need to make some adjustments to the materials and lighting. This is because Solidworks and Unreal Engine use different rendering engines.
