Tutorial - Getting started with flow simulation wizard?

Here is the tutorial.

  1. Step 1:

Start Solidworks and open the attached file. If you are not using SolidWorks 2012 than you have to open the IGES file and save it somewhere. Now click on flow simulation menu and select wizard.

  2. Step 2:

Enter the configuration name and click Next. Well i will advice to create a new configuration for each new simulation.

  3. Step 3:

Here we will select the type of unit system to be used during the analysis. Select SI and click Next.

  4. Step 4:

In this step we will select the analysis type. Internal analysis is used in case of pipe flow etc whereas external analysis is used in case of analysis of car surface etc. Select internal type since we are going to analyse the pipe flow.

  5. Step 5:

In this step we will select the water. As we are going to analyse the simulation for water flow.

  6. Step 6:

In this step we have to define the wall conditions. Let's assume the wall to be perfectly smooth. So keep the default setting and click next.

  7. Step 7:

Let's keep the initial condition default and click Next.

  8. Step 8:

In this step we have to define the mesh configuration. A higher mesh size will give quick result but not accurate whereas the smaller mesh size will give higher accuracy but requires high memory and long time duration. Keep the default settings and click Finish.

  9. Step 9:

Now we can see that flow simulation analysis manager has appeared in property manager. The model is also enclosed in a box. This box is the domain in which the analysis is to be done or in simple words the system to be observed.
