What's the best way to model a semi-circle grid/grate of rods?

Hope this helps. :) This is just one way of making it.. .there are many other ways and it also depends what you want the end profiles of your bars to be like....

  1. Step 1:

Create your circle and extrude as a surface.

If you cant find the surface option right click on the tool bar and add the surfacing tool bar in.

  2. Step 2:

Create your sketch for the bars & linear pattern along the desired axis...

  3. Step 3:

    Extrude your sketch to surface.

Now you have done this you can hide your surface and you will be left with your bars.

Take the same approach to create the bottom bars.

  4. Step 4:

    Now for the design table.

At the top of your feature tree select the 3rd button along for configurations.

    http://help.solidworks.com/2011/English/SolidWorks/sldworks/LegacyHelp/Sldworks/Configuration/Creating_a_Design_Table.htm

I have selected - insert - table - design table.

You can now create multiple configs of the same part and input the sizes you need to change within the excel spread sheet... :)
