4 Slide Operator
Precision Coil Spring Company
•
April 2020 - March 2021
I used a Nielson F model 4 slides for fast mass production of small, flat fasteners - using dies and forming tooling. I was expected to do stuff like take apart the feed block and precisely adjust the feed. I sharpened punches and dies and precisely adjusted their position with a .001" dial and tapper.
Coils of wire and flat stock, typically 1" high and .02 - .04" thick are fed through a straightener & feed block, die section, cut off then, forming section. Most of the parts I made were brackets.
I learned a lot about the forming process and fast practical methods of design and manufacture tooling for the die and forming process. How to leverage the surface grinder to it's max potential with angle gauges and good vises.
