Hi Igor,
We have actually been discussing this as there are quite a few inactive users on GrabCAD. Nothing really solid has formed from these discussions, but it is an interesting point.
Do you have any ideas or thoughts?
Thanks!
Best,
Abe
What about "Inactive member" section under "Report this member" option in every member profile?
This sounds like a good start to begin with.
It is very simple.
Keep an account list for active and inactive members.
When an inactive member uses their account they go in the active member list.
Inactive users list are not shown on active search results etc etc...
I think a better idea is to show near profile picture (avatar) "last activity ...",where "..." is time when were we last time online.
What do you think of this guys?
It is a helpful idea, but how would this help people searching other active members in engineers or groups ?
Inactive members would still get listed to the frustration of other members searching out active members.
I'm not a fan of inactive users accounts, and have always figured purging them from the rolls would be a good idea, but I can't figure out why.
What is the end result or goal for removing inactive accounts? Is there a benefit to having fewer inactive members?
I think we need to define Inactive as well. I'd start with accounts having a score of zero, who have not logged in within the past 360 days.
This site did just celebrate having 4 million members, so let's be careful to not drop the membership level below that value in an account purge.
Deleting inactive users would only clean a bit of server space and clean up search results for members searching out other members.
Also by deleting inactive users you will be deleting their entire contribution to the community. Bad idea !
I think deleting members completely is is a ridiculous idea and would certainly degrade the platform. Put them on an inactive list if you must from group search but to delete members. I am surprised it is even a discussion.
I agree that members who have contributed, and have a score higher than zero should be kept (at least until cleanup 2.0).
It is pretty much impossible to do anything on this site and not get a point for it. So people with no score have literally done nothing but create an account.
I can't recall the locations mentioned, but this came up prior to the 4 million user celebration. If you go to the Engineers page, then search on some obscure location (i.e. Aland Islands), you'll find more than a thousand members with a score of zero. Repeat this for other obscure locations, and there is no shortage of "zero pointers".
Do another dozen searches for Engineer names with "ass", "boob".... and any similar terms in their name. Again, thousands of "zero pointers" come back in the results.
I honestly can't think of a good reason to purge the "zero pointers", but there does not appear to be any compelling reason to retain them either.
To be fair, this guy does have 3 points, so I guess we have to keep him around. https://grabcad.com/fucker.mcfucked-1
Actually, after reviewing some accounts (i.e. eat shit, magma shit, ass nipple, cum dumpster, and twat cunt) I see that getting 3 points for something is too easy. Instead of deleting 0 point accounts, I now propose all accounts with fewer than 10 points be deleted. Assuming of course that a benefit for the effort is found.
I totally agree with you!
Well cant argue with that one Fred. Sounds like a fair solution.
My concern was members getting outcast for not being active for a few months to a year where there could be valid reason for them not being active due to large projects, study periods, illness, accident, family, divorce, life issues etc...
Totally inactive score accounts I can not think of a reason to keep them on the server even though it does push up the Grabcad website rating for users.
I used the words "deleting members completely is a ridiculous idea" this was a harsh statement made at the end of a 16 hour work day my apologies.
Agreed.
If you really need to do something about it then just segregate them as inactive users by name i think that's enough
