It seems like Keyshot 7 was just released a few months ago, but it is already time to start looking forward to Keyshot 8.
Do you spot anything interesting or useful in this demo video?
the section view looks interesting, i'm not sure if its possible in current versions
I'll be interested to hear what the specifics are. It's clear that volumetric lighting and filling are going to be a big part of the new release. I hope they will be able to bring back some of the enhancements that they tried to release in 7 and had to roll back with 7.1. I'd really like to see changes with network rendering.
I've always used SOLIDWORKS to make/edit the models before sending them to Keyshot for rendering. A section view was as easy as making a cut, then assigning a color to the resulting model faces (for a different material).
This Keyshot feature must be aimed at people making the section views directly in Keyshot.
It will be interesting to see how it is done. I'm imagining a lot of setup with blocks or planes used as cutting tools.
I do something similar in inventor, it would just be interesting to see it in keyshot.
In the demo reel it showed a hatch on the cut faces, whereas in the models i've cut through in inventor i have a solid fill.
This is a quick example of how I've done a section in the past.
Apply a material, assign a color, apply a simple line as a Color Texture. Then adjust for best appearance.
It will be good to see how Keyshot adds this functionality.
Above is a section view. The model was cut in SOLIDWORKS, color and texture in Keyshot.
Above is the simple line image used as a Color Texture in the example above.
A second demo reel was released showing additional Keyshot 8 details. Things go by fast, so keep a finger on the space bar to pause as needed.
A much longer What's New in Keyshot 8 webinar is also available.
