I am a freshman in high school, I work as a mechanic on race cars. I know some about inventor. Do you have an idea on what I can make, even better if you have a multi view or a sketch with dimensions.
Well what frustrates you about what you work with? The best inventions are made by inventors with personal attachment and drive for what they are making.
If you don't know of anything yet, ask around your shop. I bet someone is upset about something you could improve.
Thank you I will the next time I am there. But I just something to have a good time on and learn more about the program I am using, I might find something that might be what you are talking about but I'm not looking for it.

You can download many sketches from here that you can practice on.
Thanks this is awesome..are there anymore resources that help with learning the software as a true layman.
I am learning Solidworks from scratch with no formal training in CAD
Im sure there are many, but if you start from the 1st model the complexity will increase as you go.
Most software have tutorials. I would start there. Once you are comfortable with the software, then start modeling and drawing your own things. If you don't have ideas from things, such as tools, that could be improved at the shop, then model a few tools you use often. By being familiar with the tool, it will click better with your brain. Also I find that when I model something relatively common, that I don't think needs improvement, I need in my over all design, I see an opportunity to improve the design due to just modeling it. Also if you know how to use measuring devices (besides a tape measure) you can really benefit from reverse engineering a physical object.
Another idea is to find a simpler model on here of something that intrigues you and see if you can replicate it. Download the file so you can use it for reference. Then make your own version of it.
Hope these ideas help!
Sincerely,
Rob Stoll
Ask amongst your supervisors , I'm sure that they can always give you a guiding hand and a direction that will be of both a benefit to your drawing skills and work experience, Aiding you in a greater understanding and knowledge of the career in which you have set your life, I hope you enjoy your yourself in both cases as it is important to that you enjoy your life choices for your work career as knowledge is truly the best thing you can have and give to others. Freely given is the best way for knowledge to be passed on to others .
I'm on my 3rd year of Mechanical Engineering and I just started creating stuff for my own. Started learning in Fusion 360 by designing stuff for Projects at school, stuff for my own in case I bought a 3rd printer later on(which I did 2 months ago). Just think of stuff you want, would love to see changed and just start working. Use tutorials on YouTube, ask people you know are good at Inventor for stuff you'd want to know etc.
Just diving into it, getting the feeling for the software is probably the best thing to do. At least in my opinion.
I've been modeling things for about 15 years and I started out just modeling things I thought looked cool. If you like to work on race cars I would measure and replicate some engine parts or maybe design your own rims or a new steering wheel. Power tools are a good place to start. I stay away from anything with organic curves like seats or body panels.
