Dear Members,
How can I open Solidworks 2018 files with Solidworks 2017 ?
thanks
have the newer version SW file saved as a step file. then you will be able to open with the older software, reconstruct it and then save as normal.
The file is here :
Thanks
I can open it now, but they are all in *.step, is there any way converting it to .prt ? so it's editable ?
Thanks

If you have SW 2017 upgraded to Service Pack 5 you can open files saved in SW 2018.
This is valid for all SW versions - SP5 can open files from the following version (only) - e.g. 2018 SP5 opens 2019 files but won't open 2020 files.
I hope this helps.
PS doesn't apply for SP4 or earlier
Thanks for your information :)
Hi Rixtronix, Solidworks is not backwards compatable, this means newer versions of the same file cannot be opened in earlier versions. there are 2 ways around this, 1] Use a program called "Backworks" here is a link to the trial of the program...http://www.backworks.info/try-backworks.php
2] Use grabcad workbench to change to part file to an iges or step or similar format, import to solidworks and use feature works to extract the features.

Save it as a .iges file. These can be opened across all editions of SolidWorks
