I Work in a Powerhouse at the base of the San Luis Reservoir in Gustine CA. Our units have two rotors on each shaft, one with 60 poles, and the other with 48. Less poles = Higher RPM. Each of the 8 units have a Francis Turbine at the end, which can pump water into the reservoir, or they can release back into the forebay, generating power. The units are rated at 68,000HP and They are over 50 years old. They were designed to run for 50 years, and so, now begins the Overhaul!
