How can I take an OBJ 3d Scan file and apply it to a part file as a texture in Rhino

Hello, I have a 3d scan of a textile that I want to scale and then apply as a texture to a part file in Rhino or Solidworks. Is this possible? Any tips or guidance would be amazing!

I'm not familiar with Rhino, so maybe it would work there.

Doing this in SOLIDWORKS would be both difficult, and a terrible idea. SW really isn't made for textures being a part of the model. Unless a "texture" is applied in a similar fashion to using a decal.

A program like Zbrush would be much better suited to this type of work. You may not even need a 3D scan of the texture since zbrush will texture a model from 2D images.

If this HAD to be done in SW, the only option I can think of is importing your scan data as another part/body in a part file. You could then use the Combine tool to Subtract the texture from the surface of the model. It would be a bit like pressing a shape into clay.
The resulting file would become very large and difficult to work with. Maybe start on a small scale and work up from there.
