How to convert a point cloud (3d scan) to solid or surfaces ?
Anyone with experience which programs to use in order to convert large point clouds to surfaces ?
It would be complete scans of engine rooms and compartments in ships, and pipe/machinery systems.
I have previously worked with recap to edit the scans, and then drawn solids in inventor and manually placed and aligned those, but it is not as precise as I would have liked, and it is rather time consuming.

If you have catia,
Use digitized shape editor to bring you point could into catia
Use quick surface reconstruction to extract profile surface plane etc from you point cloud.
Use part design , surface design to construct your geometry from things that you extracted.
