Yes, Solidworks will save as an Inventor part, and Inventor will import some versions of SW parts. You will lose the parametric data. i.e. all of the dimensions that drive the part geometry which makes editing the part in its native format a breeze. Not that you cant edit in Inventor, but it wont be driven by the sketch geometry anymore. It will be a dumb file, like a step or IGS.
