Based on my experiences with the zero-thickness error in SolidWorks I believe it has something to do with the program trying to calculate the geometry and as it works toward the edge the thickness becomes so infinitely small that it rounds to zero. A solid body cannot have a zero thickness, then it would be simply a plane. The program doesn't know whether to classify it as a plane or a solid so it just reports the error. If you were to offset the edge by even .00001 you would probably be ok.

Zach is right. Its where solid geometry meets to form a point or edge where there is zero thickness.
