1. Step 1: Converting large STL files in CATIA

   Here are the steps on how to convert large STL files to SolidBodies/Surfaces in CATIA V5:

   1. Import the STL file into CATIA V5. To do this, go to the File menu and select Import. In the Import Files dialog box, select the STL file and click Open.
   2. The STL file is imported as a mesh. To convert the mesh to a SolidBody or Surface, go to the Part Design workbench and click on the Create tab. In the Solid Bodies or Surfaces group, select the appropriate command.
   3. In the Create SolidBody or Create Surface dialog box, select the mesh that you want to convert. Click OK to convert the mesh.

   
   

   Within this case study I have made use of Geomagic but you can use other software such as MeshLab, Netfabb or Simplify3D.
