FLATSHOT feature in AutoCAD

FLATSHOT feature in AutoCAD.

  1. Step 1:

In this tutorial I will show you a cool feature for creating a 2D geometry from 3D geometry.

I will use this model for the example.

  2. Step 2:

    I will just type FLATSHOT.

And I have this window automatically,I am just gonna click create, what this will do is that it will create a block which will contain 2D geometry (lines, circles)from the Front view I am currently on.

  3. Step 3:

Now it will ask me some things like insertion point, scale, rotation but I will just press Enter on all to leave it on default. You just need to specify the insertion point, just click somewhere near the 3D object, sometimes it does not create it where you click it but it should be near 3D object if you clicked on it as insertion point.

  4. Step 4:

Now you see,it basically created a sketch form the front view of the model when we started the command.

  5. Step 5:

Now I rotated the view a little bit and I will activate the command again.

Here we go,it may not be so precise but still better than drawing all of this if you need to do something like this fast. The alignment of the created geometry is kinda different than 3D model but as long as you are on Right,Top or Front view and you are creating and you are creating geometry from those views it should be pretty precise.
