Solving Trusses in Ansys and Comparing with Analytical Results | FEA vs Analytical Results | CADable | CADable Tutorials

Welcome back to CADable. I am Engr. Ibrahim Omer, and in this tutorial, we will undertake an interesting exercise that involves comparing analytical results obtained through Finite Element Analysis (FEA) with numerical results from Ansys. We will be working on the third chapter and third question of the popular book "FEA" by Saeed Moaveni.

Throughout this tutorial, we will be focusing on a truss problem and comparing the results obtained from Ansys with the FEA solutions provided by Saeed Moaveni. This comparison will help us gain a better understanding and intuition regarding the accuracy of numerical FEA methods by contrasting them with analytical solutions.

We will cover the following content in this tutorial:

1) Truss Definition: We will start by explaining what a truss structure is and its fundamental characteristics.

2) Truss Assumptions: We will discuss the qualifying assumptions made for analyzing a truss structure.

3) Truss Examples: On the basis of strength and design, we will explore different types of trusses, accompanied by real-life examples for better comprehension.

4) Ansys Solution: We will proceed to solve the truss problem in Ansys using the data provided in the question. This analysis will be explained in detail, with each step being thoroughly defined. I have also explained how to take one mesh per element.

5) Results Comparison: The results obtained from Ansys will be compared with the analytical solutions by Saeed Moaveni. We will focus on comparing:

a) Directional Deformation
b) Force Reactions
c) Direct Stress
d) Axial Forces

6) Error Estimation: An important aspect of the comparison will involve error estimation between the numerical and analytical results. We will calculate the error percentage, which is expected to be less than 0.01%.

Throughout the tutorial, we will adopt a beginner-friendly approach, making it a valuable practice for those new to FEA. We encourage active participation and welcome any questions or queries in the comment section. I will be readily available to answer and clarify doubts. Remember, practice is key to mastery, so keep practicing as it leads to perfection.

Please utilize the play-pause technique to make the most out of the tutorial. Let's dive in and get started on this enriching learning journey!
