It's been a while since we had a puzzle, so let's re-start with an easy one.
I made this with four features, but I'm pretty sure it can be done in three. I have not figured out a better solution yet. Let's see what you can do:
I must be out of practice. I keep thinking I figured out a 3 feature solution, but I always end up with a 4th.
Feel free to modify dimensions if desired, those are just a reference so we're all on the same page.
I made it with 3...
But, I couldn't figure out what that "thing" above the cylinder is.
Maybe a front view will help.
Anyways, here it is:
The "thing above the cylinder" is a continuation of the top surface which cuts away part of the cylinder to for a "D" shape.
Front view attached for reference:
Looks good.
I figured it out as well. Hopefully nobody will post a 2-feature solution. Jack K might have a good solution. He wanted to change some values to make it more difficult.
When I made this with 4 features it seemed like a great method, but I actually had to make it in what I'd call a "worse" way to get it down to 3 features. It sort of defied logic.
Got it too. But only 2 features Hmm not sure about that Nice puzzle not how I would do it usually thanks FredSWUG
I think CATIA might be eligbile for 2 features since it can extrude multiple profile. Else Even I think 3 is the best way!
Did it in Fusion 360 with 3 Features. In SW too, it can be done the same way. If we change the extrusion length from 26 to 30 , even then it can be done in 3 features.
Just verified what I said last week. And I learned something new - thanks Fred!
Making the length of the cylinder different from the base just makes it a little more challenging, but still can be done in 3 steps.
Can we share our solutions after a while so that we can get to see the different methods and learn something? Similar to the Ring with 4 colours puzzle.
It takes away some of the challenge when a puzzle/challenge is posted, and the solutions appear a few posts down.
What if we posted puzzles in this discussion, but had a separate discussion where solutions and hints are posted?
Then if people are ready to give up, they'll be able to find a solution, but people that want to ponder a solution for hours/days can do so without spoilers.
Way back on page 1 I had suggested just sending solutions via the message system if someone requested help, but without the ability to attach an image to a message, it is not a great system.
If two separate discussions is a too difficult, answers can be posted here. Maybe just add a warning at the top about it being a solution?
2 discussions seems way more sensible...
At least to me.
We could start a new Puzzle group :)
Is there enough content for a full group? This one discussion at 6 pages is already bigger than many of the existing groups.
I submitted a request for a puzzle based group. If/when it is approved, I'll copy the puzzles from this discussion over to the new group.
The puzzle group now exists.
I posted the previous puzzles there. I think it will be a lot easier with each puzzle in it own discussion, but I'm open to suggestions:
