How to mirror bodies in AutoCAD?

How to mirror bodies in AutoCAD by using 3D mirror tool

  1. Step 1:

You are probably familiar with mirroring 2D geometry in AutoCAD if you are not total beginner but when it comes to 3D it is a little bit different.

In SOLIDWORKS it is pretty easy but in AutoCAD it may be a little bit hard for beginners.

I have this simple model with a box on the picture and this shape at the right face.I am going to show you how to mirror it to the other side of the box.

  2. Step 2:

On the Modify panel you can find 3D Mirror tool, you need to be on 3D Modeling Workspace to see it.You can always type commands in AutoCAD.

I have activated the tool and first thing we need to do is to select objects we want to mirror.

  3. Step 3:

Now I need to specify 3 points on mirror plane,if you press down-arrow key on keyboard you will get more options for mirror, now I am gonna show you 3 points.

  4. Step 4:

Now these are the 3 points you need to select, why these you may ask?

Well,in AutoCAD there are no actual planes like in other software which can be used for mirror so in AutoCAD you need to select 3 middle points (with this option) to mirror your body.

Here it is,now lets go to another option.

  5. Step 5:

You can do mirror by using XY,YZ and ZX axis.In this case I need to use YZ.

Look at the User Coordinate system (UCS),YZ is represents the plane.

Now it is the one point we need to select,I does not need to be the one I shown on the picture,it just needs to be in the middle of YZ.

  6. Step 6:

It is the same result of course.

  7. Step 7:

Next option we can use is to mirror by Object (Polyline or circle).

They need to be in the middle again, you can see my circle on the picture.

When i chose Object options I just selected the circle and that would be it.
