Tutorial - Creating a derived sketch in SW

  1. Step 1:

    If we have part like this and we want to put a sketch of the extruded cut on the other sides of the part.

  2. Step 2:

    Than we can select the sketch on the design manager tree go to edit and select copy.

  3. Step 3:

    Than we select the face of the part and we go to edit and click paste

  4. Step 4:

    We can see that we got our sketch on the face that we wanted.

  5. Step 5:

    Other way of doing this is using a Derived sketch. First you have to select the sketch (in the design manager tree) and select the face of the part that you want.

  6. Step 6:

    Go to insert and click on the derived sketch.

  7. Step 7:

    We have our sketch where we wanted it.

  8. Step 8:

    Using the dimension icon place it where you want

  9. Step 9:

    If you decide to change the dimensions of the original sketch,

  10. Step 10:

    You will notice that the dimensions of the derived sketch are also changed and the dimensions of the copied sketch are not changed

  11. Step 11:

    If for some reason you want to change the dimensions of the original sketch but you don't want this change to affect the derived sketch you right click on the derived sketch in the design manager tree and click on underive.
